I have just finished reading Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino. I loved the incredible truths on design and travel he displays in the completely fictitious and impossible cities he describes. My favourite quote is, “the more one was lost in unfamiliar quarters of distant cities. the more one understood the other cities he had crossed to get there; and he retraced the stages of his journeys. and he came to know the port from which he set sail. and the familiar places of his youth. and the surroundings of home.” I can't help thinking back to the cities I have seen in the last year and how all make more sense while becoming more wondrous in context of the others.
I am now looking forward to returning to my original city to see it with new understanding!
